According to Al Jazeera English, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has admitted that it has so far been unable to contact Nawel Pillay, the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize laureate and International Court of Justice judge, and has been unable to personally convey the news to her.
According to Al Jazeera, the committee made a public appeal through the media: "Dear Nawel Pillay, if you see this message: Congratulations, you have won the Nobel Peace Prize." The related news was released on October 9.
Pillay currently serves as a judge on the International Court of Justice. The International Court of Justice is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations, headquartered in The Hague, the Netherlands. The Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded annually since 1901, with the customary practice of immediately notifying the laureate once the winner's name is announced.
