According to Sky News, at least 13 miners were killed in an airstrike in the Sudan-Egypt border region, with the casualty information released by a medical group.

At present, which military force carried out the attack, exactly which side of the border the incident occurred on, and the nationality and specific identity of the victims have not been authoritatively verified in publicly available information.

Photos published by Sky News show that northern Sudan is home to large numbers of individual artisanal gold miners, an economic activity that has long sustained the livelihoods of local communities. When military strikes reach such remote mining areas, laborers have neither access to advance warning channels nor any meaningful possibility of receiving organized protection.

Since the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces erupted into full-scale civil war in April 2023, the conflict has caused massive civilian casualties and stands as one of the most severe humanitarian disasters of our time, with international concern and intervention never matching the scale of the crisis. This latest deadly border airstrike once again demonstrates that in the Sudan conflict, civilians are highly vulnerable to being consumed by the military actions of the warring parties, while accountability remains in a state of no one claiming responsibility and no one being held to answer for it.
