US-brokered "ceasefire" proves hollow: Israel airstrikes northern Gaza, family of four killed, medical system on brink of collapse

Israeli warplanes bombed areas near the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia in northern Gaza in the early hours of Thursday, killing a Palestinian family of four — a man, his wife, and their two daughters, aged 12 and 8. According to Al Jazeera, an official at al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City told AFP that "the bodies of the al-Ahda family of four were recovered in pieces."

The strikes came more than ten months after the US-brokered so-called "ceasefire" took effect in October 2025. Despite the ceasefire nominally remaining in place, Israeli warplanes, helicopters and drones continued firing across multiple locations in Gaza on Thursday.

Al Jazeera reporter Shadi Shalab reporting from Gaza City: Israeli drones struck the al-Daraj neighborhood in eastern Gaza City, injuring three Palestinians, one of whom was in critical condition and taken to al-Shifa Hospital; Israeli helicopters opened fire near the Jabalia refugee camp, with artillery fire reported in northern Gaza; a drone strike hit the al-Haq Mosque west of the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, injuring multiple people; Israeli drones also struck the Nuseirat refugee camp and the al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis, and fired on Palestinians near Jabalia.

The medical system is on the verge of complete collapse. Shalab said: "The healthcare system has completely collapsed. Hospitals can only barely operate on small generators, as Gaza's electricity supply has been cut off for the third consecutive year, and Israel continues to impose strict restrictions preventing fuel, engine oil and spare parts from entering hospitals." The Palestinian Wafa news agency, citing medical sources at al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City, reported that the hospital's main generator stopped on Thursday due to fuel and spare parts supply disruption, forcing the imaging department to shut down — including the only CT scanner in northern Gaza — and surgeries to be postponed, with the hospital warning it "faced the risk of paralysis and urgently needed assistance to maintain basic services."

According to Al Jazeera, citing Gaza local authorities data, since October 7, 2023, Israeli military operations in Gaza have killed 73,669 people and injured 174,652, with the dead mostly women and children; this data has not been independently verified.
