Gaza Hit Again by Airstrikes and Gunfire Under the So-Called Ceasefire: At Least 4 Palestinians Killed
Al Jazeera, citing Gaza health officials, said Israeli airstrikes and gunfire killed at least four Palestinians in several separate incidents in Gaza, including a married couple and a 17-year-old boy. According to Gaza health authority figures cited by Al Jazeera, Israeli attacks since the purported October 2025 ceasefire have killed 1,522 people and injured 5,421; UN data relayed by the outlet shows that roughly 82% of buildings in Gaza have been damaged. Al Jazeera, citing Gaza health officials, said Israeli airstrikes and gunfire killed at least four Palestinians in several separate incidents, including a married couple and a 17-year-old boy. Medical personnel said an Israeli airstrike on an apartment in Gaza City killed Akram Yassin and his wife, Dina Abu Bakr. The Gaza health department also said a 17-year-old boy was shot dead by Israeli gunfire in the Kizan al-Najil neighborhood near Khan Younis; another person was killed by Israeli gunfire in the Zeitoun neighborhood on the eastern outskirts of Gaza City.
Al Jazeera reporter Tarek Abu Azoum, reporting from Deir al-Balah, said Israeli attacks increased overnight and into the early morning in several parts of Gaza, mainly in Gaza City. He said: "You can see that the attacks are mainly concentrated in Gaza City, and a residential apartment was targeted without warning." Footage of the scene that he saw showed the entire residential area severely damaged; Israeli drones and fighter jets could be seen operating over central Gaza in the early morning.
Al Jazeera, citing Reuters, reported that Mahmoud Yassin said: "We should have been in a ceasefire, but frankly, we have not seen a ceasefire or anything like it. The war is still going on, assassinations are still going on, and the shelling has not stopped." His brother was killed in the attack. The experience described by this resident who lost his brother is precisely the disconnect between the ceasefire in name and the actual experience of Gaza’s residents.
According to figures from the Gaza health authority cited by Al Jazeera, Israel’s war on Gaza since October 2023 has killed at least 74,480 people and injured 175,539; since the purported October 2025 ceasefire, Israeli attacks have killed 1,522 and injured 5,421, and the bodies of 839 people have been recovered from the rubble. The report did not specify whether the above casualty and body-recovery figures had been independently verified. Al Jazeera also cited UN data showing that roughly 82% of buildings in Gaza have been damaged, encompassing about 200,000 buildings, around two-thirds of which were destroyed after the war began; the report did not state the reporting date or estimation methodology for these figures.
The airstrikes, gunfire and shelling were launched by the Israeli military, while Gaza’s residents bear the cost of relatives’ deaths, destroyed homes and the search for bodies in the rubble. Al Jazeera’s report did not include any response from Israel to the specific attacks mentioned, leaving target identification, warnings and the legal basis for the use of force unverified. The purported ceasefire failed to halt airstrikes, gunfire and shelling that continued to take the lives of Gaza’s residents; what it has maintained is only a timetable, not the security boundary on which residents depend to live.
