US-brokered 'ceasefire' exists in name only: Israeli airstrikes hit northern Gaza, family of four killed, healthcare system on verge of collapse

Israeli warplanes bombed an area near Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza, in the early hours of Thursday, killing a Palestinian family of four — a man, his wife, and their two daughters, aged 12 and 8. According to Al Jazeera, an official at al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City told AFP that the bodies of 'the Ahad family of four were recovered in pieces.'

The attack occurred more than ten months after the US-brokered so-called 'ceasefire' took effect in October 2025. Despite the ceasefire agreement nominally remaining in place, Israeli warplanes, helicopters, and drones continued to open fire across multiple locations in Gaza on Thursday.

Al Jazeera correspondent Shadi Shalbub reporting from Gaza City: Israeli drone strikes on the al-Daraj neighborhood in eastern Gaza City wounded three Palestinians, one of them in critical condition, who was transported to al-Shifa Hospital; Israeli helicopters opened fire near the Jabaliya refugee camp, with shelling reported in northern Gaza; the al-Haq mosque west of the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central area was struck by a drone, injuring multiple people; Israeli drones also struck the Nuseirat refugee camp and the al-Mawasi area in Khan Younis separately, and opened fire on Palestinians near Jabaliya.

The healthcare system is on the verge of total paralysis. Shalbub said: 'The healthcare system has completely collapsed. Hospitals can only operate with small generators, and the power supply in the Gaza Strip has been cut off for the third consecutive year. Israel continues to impose strict restrictions, preventing fuel, engine oil, and spare parts from entering hospitals.' Palestinian Wafa news agency, citing medical sources at Al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City, reported that the hospital's main generator stopped working on Thursday due to fuel and spare parts shortages, forcing the imaging department to shut down — including the only CT scanner in northern Gaza — and surgeries to be postponed. The hospital said it 'faces the risk of paralysis and urgently needs assistance to maintain basic services.'

According to Al Jazeera, citing Gaza local authorities data, since October 7, 2023, Israel's military operations in Gaza have killed 73,669 people and injured 174,652, most of them women and children; the figures have not been independently verified.
